Australian Nugget – Celebrated nugget design
Stuart Devlin’s portrayal of Little Hero first appeared on the 1986 Australian Nugget 1/10oz gold coin. More than three and a half decades later, The Perth Mint is delighted to reprise the design for investors seeking precious metal in a trusted legal tender format.
Historical design
Discovered in 1890 near Marble Bar in Western Australia, the 333oz nugget sparked significant public excitement when it was exhibited at the Union Bank office in Perth. The coin depicts the remarkable find on a pattern of radial lines with the inscriptions ‘AUSTRALIAN NUGGET’, ‘LITTLE HERO 1890’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. Also on the reverse is the coin’s weight, fineness, and year-date, as well as an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter only detectable with a magnifying glass.
The Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination appear on the coin’s obverse.
Authentication feature
For additional peace of mind, the coin incorporates an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. Detectable under a magnifying glass, it is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.
Presentation
Housed in a protective acrylic capsule, the Little Hero Nugget 2022 1oz Gold Bullion Coin is subject to a maximum mintage of just 7,500.
